Sponsor Spotlight: The Hoof BBQ
The Hoof BBQ is a relative newcomer to the restaurant scene, but that didn’t stop them from stepping up to the plate as one of DeadLand’s 2016 food sponsors. The barbecue restaurant is a family affair run by the McGuire family, who use as many local ingredients as possible and make everything from scratch. The result is what they call “slap your Granny” good cooking.
The meat is smoked daily and can take 3-4 days to cook, using a secret family recipe that ensures the meat is “savory, tasty, and juicy.” Featured meats are brisket, pulled smoked chicken, pulled smoked pork, sausage, and rack spare ribs. Sandwiches are served on a wheat bun (with or without slaw), with chips, read more. The platters are heartier and are served with two sides and their signature silver dollar corn muffins. There are plenty of fixin’s too, like shredded cheese, sour cream, chow-chow, jalapenos, and sliced dill pickles.
It’s a meat-heavy menu, but you can get a plate of sides instead, if you prefer. All sides are made in-house and include both hot (baked beans, creamed corn, mac & cheese, cornbread dressing, collard greens, mashed potatoes, white beans) and cold (applesauce; coleslaw; cucumber, tomato & onion salad; potato salad) selections (http://cnr-sud.com/).
To top it all off, they have fresh, made-from-scratch banana pudding. It’s the only dessert they offer, but then, it’s delicious! What more could any bona fide southern diner ask for?
Thanks for dinner, The Hoof BBQ!
